Noble Rose: Beautiful Forever
My mother’s name in Lithuanian is Adele Roze (in English: Adeline Rose) meaning noble rose. She was 100 years old in December 2013, had her brain aneurysm coiled twice, has a third cranial nerve palsy and eyelid droop but still lives alone in the small house in the Pennsylvania coal mining town where I was raised. The sculpture “Noble Rose: Beautiful Forever” in rose alabaster shows a pair of arthritic hands holding a wilting rose with one petal having fallen off and one about to fall off.
